Production Company

Phoenix Films is an Australian based documentary production company with over twenty five years production experience. Its principle, Walt Missingham, is one of Australia's highest grossing documentary producers, his critically acclaimed works on Bruce Lee became the highest earning documentaries in Australia's history when they were released.

In 1998, at the Giant Screen Theater Association Convention in Sydney Australia, Walt controversially presented the concept of screening selected 35mm feature films, converted to 70mm, in IMAX theaters. The concept was initially opposed by the IMAX community but a sample of the Bruce Lee film 'Way of the Dragon', converted by the Company Imagica to 70mm at Walt's direction, was shown at a number of subsequent Conventions and Conferences. IMAX corporation subsequently appointed Greg Foster, formerly of MGM/UA, who successfully introduced the concept of converted 35mm films into the culture of IMAX/large format theaters. This strategy is attributed as one of the key reasons in arresting the downward slide of the profitability of IMAX Theaters.

In 2000 Walt, in partnership with Becker Entertainment, negotiated the largest USA Free to air sale of an Australian produced television program when he secured a sale price of $US2.5million for the one hour program 'Space Dive'

In 2003 Walt co-produced the documentary, for Warner Brothers, 'Blood and Steel' with the 'Enter the Dragon' producer Paul Heller. This film was an integral part of the 30 year anniversary DVD release of 'Enter the Dragon'

Walt's production 'Legends' a film dealing with the history of Australian surfing was a Logie award 'Best Documentary' finalist. His recent series "Martial Arts Masters" is setting similar records to his previous productions.

In 2012 Walt is currently producing two feature films, a 13 part television drama series and a 7 part reality/travel program.
